DIT Exclusive Interview–Ruan Menghan from Visual Communication of GAD

 

 

阮梦韩 Menghan Ruan

 

阮梦韩是耿丹国际设计学院2014级视觉传达设计专业毕业生,2017年参加爱尔兰都柏林理工大学(DIT)的双学位项目,2018年11月获得学位证书。 

Ruan Menghan is a 2014 Graduate of Visual Communication from Gengdan Academy ofDesign. She participated in the Double Degree Program of Dublin University of Technology (DIT) in 2017 and obtained her degree certificate in November 2018.

记者:请分享一下拿到双学位的心情。

Reporter:Please share your feelings about getting a Double Degree.

阮:很开心,很欣慰,很惊讶,很自豪,更多的是感激。

Ruan: Happy, excited, proud and I am more grateful for that.

记者:你认为DIT的教学模式及学习氛围与国内有什么不同吗?

Reporter: Do you think the teaching mode and learning atmosphere of DIT are different from those in China?

阮:首先,就教学模式来说,DIT大四一年的过程中需要完成四个毕业设计作品,涉及的范围会比较多样,与国内有极大的差异。这就意味着每一个作品的规模都不会做的很大,相对来说每个作品完成所需的时间会相对紧张。国内的同学只需要在大四一年完成一个毕业设计作品,时间会比较充裕,思考与研究也会相对比较深入。

Ruan: First of all, as for teaching mode, four graduation projects need to be completed in the course of DIT senior year. The scope involved will be quite diverse, which is quite different from that in China.This means that the scale of each work will not be very large, relatively speaking, the time required to complete each work will be  tight. Domestic students only need to complete a graduation project in their senior year. The time will be more abundant, and the thinking and research will be relatively in-depth.

另外,DIT的教学模式是,设计项目由在第三方平台来提供,例如海报招贴设计课程,会通过全国海报设计大赛的具体要求来进行作品的设计与指导,完成相应的作品并参赛。所以说,大部分设计项目由在第三方平台来提供,也可以将同学们自己接到的设计项目当作结课作品进行完成。课程配置的话,在DIT会有两个老师来针对一门课程进行授课。大四阶段,老师的授课时间很少,大部分时间是同学们自己进行学习与探究。但课程老师会每天与同学进行沟通交流,实时跟进学生的项目发展,并且会将谈话内容做相应的笔记进行表格整理,表格内容是共享的,双方都会更加清晰的了解项目进程。

In terms of teaching mode in DIT, the design projects are usually provided by the third-party platforms, such as poster design courses, which will design and guide works through the specific requirements of the National Poster Design Competition, and then complete the following works and participate in the competition. Students can also do the design works chosen by themselves as the final completion work.  A course usually involve two teachers. In the senior year, the teaching time is reduced a lot, most of the time is saved for self- study and exploration. However, the course teachers will communicate with their classmates every day, follow up the students’ project development in real time, and make notes . The notes form can be shared between teacher and student, and both sides will have a clearer understanding of the project process.

在DIT这边,针对于设计项目的前期工作也是很丰富的,大家的调研内容像字典一样厚,其次还会时刻跟进并完善自己的过程发展记录册,课程结课作业需要上交一份设计成品,然后将过程与作品整理到黑夹子里面,这个黑夹子就叫做Portfolio。

The preliminary work of the design project is also very rich. Students will always follow up and improve their own process record book. At the end of the course , they need to hand in a finished product of the design, and then arrange the process and works into a black clip, which is called Portfolio.

记者:在DIT一年的学习生活中,最大的困难是什么?

Reporter: What is the biggest difficulty in DIT’s one-year study and life?

阮:曾遇到的最大的困难,就是如何把一个项目做好,因为在DIT这边针对于一个项目而言,从前期调研到过程记录以及与老师沟通这一系列设计过程,要求都是很严格、很严谨的,而且一个项目的周期很短暂,刚刚接触多多少少会有一些不适应。这同时也是我在DIT学习到最多的,如何将一个项目完善到最好,如何把控好时间,都是经验之谈。

Ruan:The biggest difficulty I have ever encountered is how to do a project well, because in DIT, for a project, the design process from pre-research to process record and communication with teachers is very strict and rigorous, and the cycle of a project is very short. But I also learned how to perfect a project to the best and how to control the time.

记者:大多数学弟学妹认为,语言问题会成为他们出国学习中最大的障碍,对此您有什么个人感悟可以和我们分享一下吗?

Reporter: Most students think that language is the biggest obstacle for them to study abroad. Do you have any personal insights to share with us?

阮:在生活上,爱尔兰这边的语言交流会存在一些地域口音,初到爱尔兰时也是都多多少少的不适应。但是在学习中,语言问题的话其实不用太担心,课程中需要与老师经常进行沟通,所以口语能力会得到很大提升,沟通过程中也会存在太大问题,除了语言交流,还可以使用肢体语言进行交流呀,所以不需要担心,语言环境会帮助你得到很大提高。俗话说:“音乐无国界”,所以说我们在做设计的过程中,不存在交流障碍,设计也是无国界的。

Ruan: There are some regional accents in Irish language. But don’t worry about language. We communicated with teachers often, so oral English will be greatly improved. You can also use body language to communicate, so there is no need to worry. As the saying goes, “Music has no borders”, so there is no barrier to communication and design. 

记者:你在DIT前后做过四个设计作品,那么哪一个作品是您最喜欢的呢?可以为我们讲一下吗?

Reporter: You have done four design works. Which one is your favorite? Can you tell us something about it?

阮:四个作品我都很喜欢,都是我的小宝贝。第一个作品名为《精神食粮》,这个作品结合了食物的肌理,将食物的肌理进行拓印,针对于拓印的图案结合生活中的一部分进行描述设计,从而反映生活中的一些事情。因此这个作品的目的是制作将玉米、蘑菇、大米、桔子、扇贝5种食物作为背景的一系列的海报。通过食物的肌理,反映食物的质地。如果说食物也有着他们的世界,那么在我看来,食物的肌理就是它们的语言,通过他们的’语言’和它们的故事详细了解食物。希望通过此次的设计,可以让大家看到食物不一样的一面,希望它不仅是我们味觉上的体验,更带来了一场震撼的视觉体验。从食物的本质出发,珍惜食物,得之不易,也要对食物的用心,体会自然带给我们的惊喜。生活处处都是惊喜,我们需拉近我们同生活的距离,朝九晚五的现代生活,人们总会忽略这最淳朴的生活细节,渐渐的便失去对生活的乐趣和积极性。希望借助此次的设计,发现食物不在仅仅是我们的粮食,也是我们的精神食粮。

Ruan:I like all four works very much. The first work is called “Spiritual Food”. This work rubbed the texture of food, then described and designed the rubbing pattern with a part of life, thus reflecting some things in life.Therefore, the aim of this work is to produce a series of posters with corn, mushrooms, rice, oranges and scallops as the background. The texture of food is reflected by its texture.The texture of food is their language, and we can understand food through their ’language’. It is not only about our taste experience, but also a shocking visual experience. Food is not easy to get and should be cherished. We should also pay attention to food and realize the surprise that nature brings us. Life is full of surprises. We need to be closer to life. People always ignore the simplest details of life, and gradually lose the joy and enthusiasm of life. With the help of this design, I hope we can find that food is not only our food, but also our spiritual food.

《中国传统建筑书籍》作品 Books on Chinese traditional Architecture

 

第二个作品是将中国传统建筑的特色进行排版与书籍装帧设计。例如徽派建筑采用马头墙及青瓦白墙的特点。京派建筑采用四合院的分层特点,将每一层一页的装帧方式,凸显一种层次感。

The second work is the typesetting and book binding design with the characteristics of Chinese traditional architecture. For example, Hui style buildings adopt the characteristics of horsehead wall and green tile white wall. Beijing style buildings adopt the layered characteristics of the courtyard, which highlights a sense of hierarchy by the way of binding each layer on one page.

第三个作品是将KFC进行包装再设计,结合了中国传统节日的特色,采用了中国的春季、元宵节、端午节、中秋节等。提取出财神爷、屈原、嫦娥等传统人物的形象,针对于KFC老爷爷进行同构设计,凸显了一个家庭聚在一起聚餐的和谐氛围。

The third work is the packaging redesign of KFC, which adopts the characteristics of Chinese traditional festivals like Chinese Spring Festival, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and so on. The images of traditional characters such as God of Wealth, Quyuan and Chang’e are extracted, and the isomorphic design for Grandpa KFC highlights the harmonious atmosphere of a family gathering for dinner.

第四个作品是结合清朝的服饰设计,借此反映中国传统女性的地位。例如皇后采用牡丹与凤凰的图案进行设计。

The fourth work draws on the dress design of the Qing Dynasty to reflect the status of traditional Chinese women. For example, the queen’s dresses use the patterns of peony and phoenix.

记者:你有什么话想送给即将去往DIT进行学习的学弟和学妹们吗?

Reporter: Do you have anything to say to the students of GAD who are going to study in DIT?

阮:学校提供了好的平台,那么就要充分利用资源、抓住机会,去充实更好的自己。最后希望视觉传达设计专业的学弟学妹们都能找到自己的目标并且实现自己的理想。相信在未来的日子里,大家都会遇到最好的自己。

Ruan: BGD provide a good platform, so we should make full use of resources and seize opportunities to improve ourselves. Finally, I hope that all the students of Visual Communication can find their own goals and achieve their own ideals. I believe that in the future, everyone will meet the best of themselves.
